1 EXT. DIGBETH COACH STATION BIRMINGHAM – DAY 1980 1
It’s busy coaches and buses pulling in and out, Exhaust fumes in the air and cold. LESLIE looks very nervous of what is in front of him.

TERESA
Bye LESLIE
Stay safe.

LESLIE
Goodbye mum
Will miss you.

SHOT:

A) LESLIE gets on the coach for Bodenham and goes to the back seat.

2 INT. COACH – DAY 2

It is an old coach with dirty seats with the noise of young boys talking loud and shouting. LESLIE turns round and sits down. BARRY places his arm around LESLIE.

BARRY
All right kidder
You’re new.

LESLIE
Yes, bit scared
The names is LESLIE.

BARRY
Stick with me
You will be ok.
(MORE)

SHOT:

A) Coach pulls away LESLIE Looks out the back window crying, and waves goodbye to his mother.

FADE TO:

3 EXT. COACH, BODENHAM MANOR DRIVEWAY – DAY 3

BARRY
Come on then,
We are here.

SHOT:

A) The boys walk up the gravel driveway. Following them been guided into the Dining room.

4 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, DINING ROOM – DAY 4

Quite a large room with eight dining tables, Five places per table, Light and airy. ARTHUR sitting at the head table.

ARTHUR
LESLIE you’re in
The Barder room,
JACK will show you.

JACK
Yes sir, Come on
LESLIE follow me.

SHOT:

A) LESLIE follows JACK up the main stairs to the room.

FADE TO:

5 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BARDER BEDROOM – DAY 5

Fairly small room with four unmade beds and heavy velvet curtains there is dust bouncing in the sunlight through the window.

LESLIE
Not much is it.

JACK
Beds are not that
Bad you’ll be ok.
You’re in the corner
By the window.

(Pause) LESLIE sits on bed with a glazed expression on his face.

LESLIE
Who else
Is in here?

JACK
Me CHARLIE, DANIEL
And then you. You will
Meet them later.
Right we have to get
To the TV room.

6 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, MEETING, TELEVISION ROOM – DAY. 6

The room has around thirty comfortable chairs with the television in a lockable cabinet. The chairs have been moved to a square around the room.

COLIN
Right lost property from
Last term, shout out
If it is yours.

Lost property mainly clothes and belts and hats. The big door creeks open ARTHUR walks in.

ARTHUR
Now then, boys, we want no
Problems this term and for
You all to behave yourselves.

COLIN
Yes no trouble if
There is any the
Punishment will
Be severe.

ARTHUR
Right a few hours
Till Bedtime, Off
You all go and
Sort your rooms out.

7 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – DAY 7

SHOT:

A) Night falling through the window overlooking the gravel pits and large trees.

JACK
OK LESLIE need
To make the beds up.

CHARLIE
No nursemaids here
LESLIE, Just matron.

JACK Closes curtains. The boys are all struggling to get there duvet covers on.

DANIEL
Ha! Your so
Funny, Not!

LESLIE
Matron?

DANIEL
Yes lado! She looks
After us if were ill.

JACK
Right then beds done I’ll
Show you around LESLIE.

SHOT:

A) JACK and LESLIE go wondering through the manor. Getting dark and the lighting is not that good but the boys are looking optimistic and smiles.

8 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, MAIN HALLWAY – NIGHT 8

JACK and LESLIE are sitting on the old church pew facing the old stone staircase watching everyone coming and going with mindless chitchat. COLIN Deputy Head walks through the doorway under the stairs.

COLIN
Junior’s bedtime!
Come on lads get to bed.

JACK pulls on LESLIES arm.

JACK
Come on don’t get into
Trouble your first night.

LESLIE
It is only eight,
But you’re right, Suppose.

FADE TO:

9 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – NIGHT 9

The room is cast into complete darkness no light at all as COLIN turns out the light.

COLIN
Lights out, Get
Your heads down.

The boys slowly drift off to sleep. CUT TO:

10 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – DAY 10
A glimmer of sun light through the heavy curtains the boys are slowly waking up.

JACK
Wake up LESLIE
They will be tipping
You out of bed soon.

LESLIE
What time is it?

JACK
Time to get up the
Leaders are doing
There rounds.

BARRY, (in the door way)
Get out of bed scruffs
Get showered and ready
For breakfast.

BARRY Then walks to next room. LESLIE rushes to shower block before anyone else but JACK is not far behind.

FADE TO:

11 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, SHOWER BLOCK – DAY 11

It’s cold and damp in the shower block five showers in a row the showers take ages to warm up.

JACK
What’s the
Rush LESLIE?

LESLIE
Just a bit
Embarrassed.

SHOT:

A) EVIE walks through the shower block passed the dividing wall to the staff toilet this is the first time LESLIE sees EVIE.

LESLIE
Who’s that?

JACK
That’s EVIE the
Headmaster’s daughter.

LESLIE
She looks
Nice.

JACK
Yes she is don’t
See her much though.

CUT TO:
12 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, DINING HALL – DAY 12

SHOT:

A) Fade in to school having breakfast quite loud talking from everyone. There are around thirty-eight children ranging from eight years of age to sixteen.

LESLIE
Who would have thought cold?
Toast with real butter could
Be so nice.

JACK, CHARLIE agree.
SHOT:

B) ARTHUR the headmaster walks in and there is instance silence.

ARTHUR
Canoeing today if you wish
To go raise your hand.

LESLIE, DANIEL, BARRY raise there hands

ARTHUR
LESLIE can you swim.

LESLIE
Yes sir.

ARTHUR
Well after, you do ten meters
At the swimming baths
You may go next time.

SHOT:

C) ARTHUR picks the group but without LESLIE who looks a bit rejected.

SHOT:

D) School bell sounds and there is an orderly rush to the classrooms at the bottom of the hill.

13 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, CLASSROOMS – DAY 13

A block of classrooms layered on each other more modern than the Manor surrounded by large walls with just one footpath.

ELIZABETH
Morning class you will be pleased
To know are purchasing the new
BBC Micro and starting computer
Classes in a few weeks who would
Be interested.

Most of the class raise there hands.

ELIZABETH
Please leave your name on
The list on my desk after
Class if you wish to learn
About computers.

SHOT:

A) LESLIE sitting next to CHARLIE at rather large desks with screen separators.

CHARLIE
You would like
That then,
Computers hey.

LESLIE
Suppose so seems
Like it would be fun.

CHARLIE

Head screwed on.

(MORE)
SHOT:

B) THOMAS headmaster’s son and grounds man walks into classroom.

THOMAS
I need a volunteer for
Useful productive work
Raise your hand.
SHOT:

A) CHARLIE kicks LESLIE under table.

CHARLIE
Put your hand up you
Will get out of class.

LESLIE
Ok cool.

LESLIE Raises hand and gets picked.

SHOT:

A) THOMAS and LESLIE walking up the hill to the football pitch past the classroom. Bright sunshine and very hot.

14 EXT. FOOTPATH TO FOOTBALL PITCH – DAY 14
The footpath leads up the side of the hill that the manor sits on, LESLIE is a bit apprehensive.

LESLIE
What we doing THOMAS.

THOMAS
Clearing bracken from the
Football pitch don’t
Think it’s easy.

THOMAS hands LESLIE a scythe.

THOMAS
Your job is to be in front
Of this cultivator and clear
The stones out of the path
Make sure you get them all.

SHOT:

A) Emulate hours passing in bright sun with LESLIE with a t-shirt over his head to stop the glare then following the pitch is cleared.

THOMAS
Well done LESLIE go get a
Shower and ready for dinner.

SHOT:

B) LESLIE Struggling back to the manor house totally exhausted.
FADE TO:

15 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – DAY 15

SHOT MCU: LESLIE Collapses on the floor in the doorway JACK and CHARLIE is already in the bedroom.

JACK
What’s up with
You mate.

LESLIE
I don’t know.

CHARLIE
I’ll just
Get someone.

CHARLIE comes back with ARTHUR.

ARTHUR

Looks like we need
You to see a doctor.
CHARLIE
His sunburn
Looks bad to me.

JACK
Yes, what did?
You get up to.

LESLIE
Cannot talk now.

The Doctor is called and arrives half an hour later.

FADE TO:

DOCTOR
Well ARTHUR looks like
A bad case of sun
Stroke to me. The boy
Needs bed rest at
Least a week.

ARTHUR
Right you are then.

DOCTOR
Make sure he drinks
Plenty of fluids.

ARTHUR
We will look after
Him don’t worry.

LESLIE it’s told by ARTHUR to stay in bed for at least a week.

A)TIME LAPSE: Sunset through window and following rising
moon.

B) Focus on LESLIE broken sleep, Delirious muttering.

C) Bedroom door, MONTAGE: MATRON and staff checking LESLIE, Intermixed.

16 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – DAY 16

SHOT:

A) Second day in Evie comes to the room with soup and water.

EVIE
Hello LESLIE bought
You some soup,
How you feeling.

LESLIE
Not that bad now,
Feel like getting up.
But got a bit dizzy
Coming back from the
Toilet.

EVIE
There you are then
Still need rest. We
Got really worried
About you, and you
Were asleep two days
Solid.

LESLIE
Did not know that,
Seems like a dream.

EVIE
Well not a dream,
Everyone is worried
About you. You need
A few more days in bed.

(MORE)

SHOT:
B) Emulate days passing LESLIE Sneaks down to the kitchen. All the boys are down the classrooms and the manor seems empty.

FADE TO:

17 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, KITCHEN – DAY 17

LESLIE
Hello ROSE.

ROSE
What you doing lad,
You should be in bed
Don’t let anyone catch you.

LESLIE
What you making
For dinner then.

ROSE
Sausage stew,
Now get off
With you.

LESLIE
Any chance of
A cup of tea?

ARTHUR walks in to the kitchen.

ARTHUR
LESLIE! Why are
You out of bed.

LESLIE
Needed a drink sir.

ARTHUR
Well get back to bed now,
A few more days, don’t
let Me catch you down here again.

ARTHUR (CONT)
Until you’re told, you can get up.

LESLIE Go’s Back to bed for another two days. It’s quiet in the bedrooms as the daily routine carries on without him.
CUT TO:

18 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – DAY 18

School bell rings for class then JACK enters the room.

LESLIE
What’s up JACK.

JACK
You’re allowed up today
ARTHUR sent me up.

LESLIE
That’s great was
Getting stir crazy.

JACK
You’re the lucky one,
School works a drag.

LESLIE
Lucky, I could have died.

JACK
Of course, you could, not!
Come on we will be late
For the first lesson.

LESLIE classes are not easy but finds himself more or less in the computer room typing in endless code from

books to create games. He makes a small programme called safebreaker and ELIZABETH use’s this on the first years so he is quite pleased with his efforts.

19 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, DINING HALL – NIGHT 19

It comes about one dinnertime finds out he is picked to go to the Chris Bonnington lecture.

HARRISON
Quite please, said to the dining
Room. The two picked to see
Chris Bonnington tonight are
DANIEL and LESLIE please go and
Collect your best clothes
And get changed.

DANIEL
This is going
To be awesome.

LESLIE
I know Chris is amazing
Can not wait.

CUT TO:

20 INT. AIR FORCE BASE – NIGHT 20
SERIES OF SHOTS:

A) Arriving at the air force base entering the hall and take there seats.

B) Announcement lecture will be twenty minutes late.

C) Chris starts his lecture apologises he can not find his photography slides and will just be talking though his adventures.

D) LESLIE is mesmerised all the way through and sits in awe.

E) After the lecture they meet Chris in the lounge.

CHRIS BONNINGTON
Hello lads did you
Enjoy the lecture.

LESLIE, DANIEL
Yes sir.

LESLIE
Can I please have?
Your autograph.
SHOT:

Chris Bonnington signs both programmes and moves on.

CHRIS BONNINGTON
Take care lads.

LESLIE and DANIEL

FADE TO:

21 EXT. BODENHAM MANOR, CANOE SHEDS – DAY 21
LESLIE has achieved to swim his ten meters in Hereford baths and is allowed to go sailing or canoeing and is picked for his first outing of canoeing.

HARRISON
Come on lads
Lets get going.

SHOT:

A) Walking to the sheds where the canoes are. Six lads pick up the canoes by the toggles and walk then the half mile to the gravel pits.

DANIEL
I’m quite good at
This stick with me
LESLIE, the hard
Part is getting in
And out.

SERIES OF SHOTS:
A) Six boys, two canoes each pair walking down hill.

B) Pan across water of gravel pit, panning back to the boys getting in canoes.

22 EXT. BODENHAM, GRAVEL PITS -DAY 22

HARRISON
Well LESLIE first time we
Need to run through some
Procedures.

LESLIE
Ok what do I
Need to do.

HARRISON
An Eskimo roll and how
To get out when you capsize.
The point is to roll forward
When you capsize bringing
Yourself out forwards
Remember that.

DANIEL
Come on Leslie I show
You how to get in.

LESLIE manages to get in the canoe no problems and they all paddle out on the lake.

HARRISON
DANIEL comes about,
We will teach LESLIE
To roll.

DANIEL makes the front of the canoe level with LESLIE’S hands.

HARRISON
This is how you need to
Hold the paddle.

He shows LESLIE the moves to bring about the roll.

DANIEL – (shouts)
Let’s go.

LESLIE goes over but looses the paddle and grasps for DANIEL’S canoe pulls himself up.

HARRISON
Ok let’s do it again LESLIE
And hold the paddle tighter this time.

SHOT:

A) LESLIE goes over again but has a good paddle grip this time but cannot find the flat of the paddle and runs out of breath, and slaps bottom of his canoe to pulls himself up on DANIEL’S canoe.

HARRISON
That was better we
Get it this time yes.

LESLIE
Yes sir but it
Is difficult.

DANIEL
Come on I can do this
Easy get a grip.

SHOT:

B) LESLIE goes over again and it is third time lucky just about manages to roll the canoe after bobbing up twice and falling back round comes good and right. (MORE)

HARRISON
Well that was not to bad then
Good work go and have a paddle.

SHOT:

C) HARRISON takes DANIEL off to a set of gates hanging off a tree and the practice going in and out LESLIE is left to wonder the lake.

FADE TO:

23 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, TELEVISION ROOM – NIGHT 23

Shattered the lads get to the showers then bed after a bit of TV they were allowed to watch the news. The Falklands war was all over the screen and almost everyone was unnerved by this. ARTHUR walks into room.

ARTHUR
Don’t worry lads be over in a
Few weeks you can all get
To bed now, off you go.

1982 LESLIE is fourteen now and a senior leader after working his way up the league table. Part of being a senior leader is to keep the augers full of coal this means getting up at five every morning to stoke the fire in two-week shifts. Cold dark morning LESLIE has the alarm clock set for five am, No one likes this as it tends to wake the room. Morning turns around the alarm rings and it’s pitch black.

FADE TO:

24 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOM BARDER – DAY 1982. 24

JACK
Bloody hell
Switch it off.

CHARLIE
I know it’s doing my head
In every morning when
You finished LESLIE.

LESLIE
Tomorrow-sorry guys
Just the way it is.

LESLIE fumbles around in the dark to get dressed. Grabs torch and heads for the coalbunker to fill the two coal buckets. The only good thing about this is you get the kitchen to yourself and there is tea or coffee. THOMAS comes to the kitchen around five thirty.

25 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, KITCHEN – DAY 25

THOMAS
Morning LESLIE
How you doing.

LESLIE
Ok I suppose the other lads
Are a bit peeved
About the alarm clock.

THOMAS
Well it’s almost time to
Get the school up enjoy your tea.
You can make me one
while you’re at it.

THOMAS and LESLIE drink there tea until six am.

THOMAS
Come on then time
To wake the lads up.

LESLIE
Let’s go.

It takes two rounds to get the boys out of bed turning bedroom lights on to start and then on the second round to tell them to get out of bed. Some are ready than others there are always slow to wake up.
FADE TO:

26 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, BEDROOMS – DAY 26

LESLIE
FRANK get up you’re the last
One in here rises and shines.

FRANK
Go away bloody
Leave me alone.

LESLIE tips FRANK’S bed over loosing the plot.

FRANK
What the hell
I’m reporting you.

LESLIE
See if I care.

THOMAS walks past room at this point

THOMAS
That’s not fair on FRANK, LESLIE
We will have to see about this.

LESLIE is called to the headmaster’s office.

ARTHUR
Well LESLIE not like
You what was this about?
FRANK was very upset.

LESLIE
I’m sorry don’t know
What I was doing.

School bell rings out.

ARTHUR
Don’t let this happen
Again, consider yourself
Down a place on the leaders
List. Now get to class.

CUT TO:

27 INT. TECHNICAL DRAWING CLASSROOM – DAY. 27

Classroom only has four desks with technical drawing boards and well lit.

HARRISON
Were doing aircraft today
And have some engineering
Parts for you.

FRANK
This is more
Like it.

CHARLIE
Boring as, I
Don’t know what.

FRANK
CHARLIE it’s Because your
Stupid.

HARRISON
Get a grip you two, if
Any of you need help
Just ask.

CUT TO:
28 INT. BODENHAM MANOR, DINING ROOM – DAY 28

SHOT:
A) Announcement by ARTHUR this year there will be a Snowdon trip and for all interested to sign up. And part of the training will be the three peaks trial in Abergavenny with the Y.H.A, the boys are excited about this.

LESLIE
JACK you signed
For Snowdon.

JACK
No not my thing to
Much like hard work.

DANIEL
I signed should
Be good.

FRANK sitting at the next table

FRANK
I’m coming would
Not miss it.

SHOT MONTAGE: Gearing up for the trip the staff put together a large trailer for the food supplies and equipment. Then the day comes they set out in the old red transit mini bus for Abergavenny and the three peaks trial.
FADE TO

29 EXT. MINI BUS – DAY 29

LESLIE
This should be good.

FRANK
Yes, makes a change lets
See what happens.

HARRISON
Well lads here we go don’t
Expect this to be easy.

JULIA
We will take
Good care of you.

DANIEL – (Whispers)
LESLIE Lets hope they do.

SHOT:
The lads have been kitted out with new walking boots at the start of the trial are told to stand in the stream to soften the leather so they are worn in quicker.

HARRISON
Lets go then no
Stragglers allowed this
Should be fun.

SERIES OF SHOTS, FOLLOWS PLATINUM ROUTE:

A) Mount Crug Mawr, Group ascending from half way.

B) Mount Pen Cerrig Calch, Group-walking road.

C) Mount Sugar Loaf, Group-stamping cards on the peak and descending.

D) Sun setting over Abergavenny.

It’s a very long day walking to each mountain then climbing to get the ticket stamped at the top the easy part is getting back down. And all manage this and get to the youth hostel for the night.

30 INT. YOUTH HOSTEL – NIGHT 30

HARRISON
To the bedroom Snowdon
Tomorrow it’s not that bad so
Get some sleep, Lights out.

Six am start; arrive at Snowdon in a campsite just under the mountain. They all spend the next hour putting tents up.

31 EXT. SNOWDON CAMPSITE – DAY 31

HARRISON
To the group Right lads this
Is not a competition all we
Want is for you to enjoy
Yourselves, There is a
Campsite tea room please all
Behave yourselves don’t
Let the school down.

SHOT:

LESLIE, DANIEL, FRANK head to the cafe. They enter and are shocked to see two girls there age. CUT TO:

32 INT. SNOWDON, CAMPSITE CAFÉ – DAY 32

FRANK
Well this is nice a cup of
Tea and fluff to ponder.

DANIEL
Sure like you stand a chance
FRANK what’s up LESLIE
Cat got your tongue.

LESLIE
Shut up DANIEL idiot.
I’ll leave you to it.

SHOT:

LESLIE walks back to camp.

CUT TO:
33 EXT. SNOWDON, CAMPSITE – DAY 33

JULIA
You ok.

LESLIE
Yes really
Nice here.

JULIA
Have you seen the stream?
It’s just over there.

SHOT:

LESLIE Walks to the stream sits on a rock and Says to himself this is awesome.

The next day they all wake up and find some of the lads have been bitten by midges.
FADE TO:

34 EXT. SNOWDON, CAMPSITE – DAY 34

LESLIE
What’s happened to you FRANK?
Looks like you have chicken pox.

FRANK
What you on about.

As FRANK itches his face.

JULIA
Expected something like
This come here FRANK we
Will put some cream on you.

Leslie
Grab a mirror FRANK you
Look like the moon.

FRANK looses his temper and goes for LESLIE.

FRANK
Come here I’ll
See to you.

SHOT:

HARRISON grabs FRANK and holds him from hitting LESLIE who walks up to them.

LESLIE
Calm down FRANK
It was only a joke.

FRANK
You just wait
I’ll catch up with you.

HARRISON
No, you won’t FRANK
Take it easy.

FRANK collects himself and they all sit down to dinner and bed the next day dawns the day of ascending Snowdon. HARRISON walking round each tent waking everyone up.

FADE TO:

33.
35 EXT. SNOWDON, CAMPSITE – DAY 35

SHOT: Sunrise.

HARRISON
Come on lads we have
A lot to do today.

SHOT:

A) The lads start to pack the rucksacks for the day.

HARRISON
Ok lads this is not
A competition just
Pace yourselves and
Enjoy it, let’s go.

JULIA
Be aware this can be
Very dangerous so be safe.

SHOT:

B) The group starts out to the pyge track to ascend Snowdon.

FRANK
Going to beat you
To the peak LESLIE.

LESLIE
You sure about that.

FRANK
Yes, eat dirt loser.

SHOT:

A)

FRANK storms off in front as LESLIE just plods along with the group. It’s not long before FRANK looses his steam and the group catch him.
HARRISON
What’s up FRANK tired, Can you stay
With the group this time.

FRANK
Yes sir.

B)

By this time, LESLIE is point of the group and it’s not long before he leaves them behind.

HARRISON (Shouts)
LESLIE waits at that rock.

As they reach LESLIE

HARRISON
Well you make it look easy
You will have to carry
More supplies.

C)

HARRISON loads LESLIE’S rucksack with coats they set out again.

LESLIE
Thought you were the best
FRANK want to try my rucksack.

FRANK
Cram it.

E)

FRANK starts to fall back again and with the extra load LESLIE has does not deter him.

HARRISON (whispers)
LESLIE I don’t mind you getting
There first but take your time.

LESLIE
Thanks sir.

LESLIE reaches the peak first and sits on the plinth at the peak the group are five minutes behind with FRANK at the front. FRANK does no more than climbs the plinth and stands on the top.

FRANK – (Shouts)
Told you LESLIE I would beat
You to the top.

LESLIE
FRANK I don’t care your
Still a loser in that fairy
Land you live in.

FRANK
Watch it.

All the group made the climb.

HARRISON
Well done all we will stay
Here for an hour get your
Strength back.

F)
Everyone sits around the plinth and eats there packed lunch of jam sandwiches.

HARRISON
Right lads time to go were
Going down a different way
So be careful as you go.
It’s the Crib Goch route.

G)
They all start out easy at first and about halfway down FRANK looses his footing and falls head over heals banging his head on a rock right in front of LESLIE.

LESLIE (Shouts)
FRANK, FRANK!

HARRISON rushes to FRANK How did you manage that.

FRANK – (Dazed)
I slipped my head hurts.

HARRISON
It will are you ok?

FRANK
I think so my head is sore.

LESLIE
Nearly lost you there
FRANK you’ll be ok.

HARRISON
Right lads we have a brake
Here for ten minutes.

JULIA sits with FRANK

FRANK
Think I’m
Ok now.

JULIA
Few minutes,
That’s a nasty bump.

Never the less a few hours later they reach, camp FRANK is sent to his tent to recover. FRANK DIES.

F)

Back to school the next day.
As they arrive back, EVIE is waiting by the door to greet them back but singles LESLIE out.

They make there way down to the road and start walking for approximately an hour.

Next day cycling test is arranged JULIA has the British cycle association test in mind. On time trials. It’s a sunny day and the road from the bottom of the drive is almost exactly a mile long so good for the test.

The goal was five hundred and twenty five miles youth hostelling round east Angela with JULIA and COLIN for two weeks. This was hard going and the group achieved the gold standard for the cycling association and achieving a seventy-five mile distance goal. Started by being dropped of in the van in Kings Lynn.

LESLIE not concentrating ends up going down a rather large pot hole and comes off his bike as the other lads pile up on top of him. JULIA stops and COLIN comes up from the back.

The following week LESLIE catches the train to Hereford not being on a train by himself before panics as the train changes direction in Shrewsbury. Then gets of halfway on the journey.

They get in to THOMAS’S car a Chrysler sunbeam that THOMAS has been tuning with engine mod’s and a rather loud exhaust.

81 INT. THOMAS’S CAR – DAY 81

THOMAS

LESLIE

They get out on the main road and THOMAS puts it to the floor reaching speeds of up to ninety-five miles an hour.

THOMAS

LESLIE

They do the nine miles in around eight minutes back to the manor. And park up.

THOMAS

LESLIE gets his exam result. He is called to the headmaster’s office.

After dinner, they all go and look at the notice bored. LESLIE has been placed at the local timber yard for two weeks. The next two weeks see’s LESLIE cycling six mile to work at the timber yard and back.

In the timber yard a small office for lunch and brakes.

Finishing work experience LESLIE gets a good report on his work. Nothing-special mainly good attendance. LESLIE takes one of the magazines back to school and shows JACK.
